Overview
Blissphotographics.com is a photography website that features a vast collection of photographs taken by Franklin Bliss. The website has been around for some years, but it was in need of an update to enhance user experience and attract more visitors. The design case study below outlines the process and decisions involved in redesigning the website and implementing an e-commerce platform for digital prints.
Before I began work on the website I developed a new brand identity and logo for marketing Franklin’s photos.

Goals:
The primary goals for the redesign of Blissphotographics.com were to improve the website’s functionality, design, and user experience. In addition, the client wanted to sell digital prints of their photographs, so we aimed to implement an e-commerce platform that would allow visitors to purchase prints directly from the website. We aimed to achieve this by implementing the following objectives:
- Create a more visually appealing design that showcases the photographs effectively.
- Implement an e-commerce platform that allows visitors to purchase digital prints.
- Simplify the navigation and make it more intuitive for users.
- Make it easy for visitors to find specific photographs by categorizing and tagging the images.
- Ensure that the website loads quickly and is optimized for search engines.

Process:
- Research: I started by conducting research on the photography industry and current trends in website design. I also reviewed the current website to identify areas that needed improvement.
- User Experience (UX) Design: Based on our research, I created wireframes to determine the layout and structure of the website. I tested the wireframes with a group of users to ensure that they were intuitive and easy to navigate.
- Visual Design: I created a design system that reflected the brand’s values and aesthetics. I used a minimalistic approach to the design to let the photographs take center stage. I chose a monochromatic color scheme to create a timeless and elegant feel.
- E-commerce Implementation: I implemented an e-commerce platform using WooCommerce and customized the theme to fit the design system. I created a digital prints store that allowed visitors to purchase prints in various sizes and formats.
- Development: I developed the website using WordPress CMS and optimized it for fast loading speeds and improved SEO.
- Testing and Launch: We tested the website and e-commerce platform to ensure that all features worked correctly and that it was responsive across different devices. After thorough testing, I launched the new website.
Results:
The redesigned Blissphotographics.com website met all the objectives we had set out to achieve. The new website has a more visually appealing design that showcases the photographs more effectively. The website’s e-commerce platform allows visitors to purchase digital prints directly from the website, enhancing the user experience and generating revenue for the client.
The navigation has been simplified and is more intuitive, making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for. We categorized and tagged the images, making it easier for visitors to find specific photographs. The website now loads faster, improving the user experience, and it is optimized for search engines. Overall, the redesign has made the website more user-friendly, leading to an increase in traffic and engagement.
Conclusion:
The redesign of Blissphotographics.com was successful in achieving the goals set out in the project brief. The implementation of an e-commerce platform for digital prints has allowed the client to generate revenue directly from the website, while the redesign has made the website more attractive to users. The website’s categorization and tagging features also help users find specific photographs with ease. The redesign has given Blissphotographics.com a new lease of life, and it is now well-positioned to compete in the photography industry.
